Santiago Vazquez is Broward County’s Best Hope for positive change
In Broward County there are a slew of intensifying problems whether that be the continual and growing distrust and agitation between the community and its police, the lack of qualified mental health professionals to serve public servants and the public in general, a dearth of programs to protect senior citizens who are such an integral part of our community, the 911 Emergency Management System crisis which is directly impacting the safety of the citizens of Broward County, and the list goes on and on.
Whether it is the bullying that plagues our public school system or the mass shootings which have led to the loss of so many innocent lives, as a community we can no longer tolerate the incompetent policies of past sheriffs, we need a sheriff who is committed to positive change and who has both a plan to resolve the burgeoning problems that face us as well as the exerpience to put that plan into action.
Happily, Sgt. Santiago Vazquez has exactly what this embroiled community needs. Santiago comes from an intense, diverse, and exceptional background. He is a war veteran of the United States Army having served in combat during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, in Guantanamo Bay Cuba for humanitarian operations in support of Haitian migrants and in Bosnia-Herzegovina where he was the recipient of numerous Army commendations and meritorious awards.
Broward needs someone who understands the intense tapestry of cultures, religions, languages, incomes and political views of its diverse population, and because Sgt. Santiago Vazquez has served Broward County as a law enforcement officer for over 23 years, there is no one who understands the tapestry of this community better than he. Santiago is focused on the service of the community through grassroots efforts affecting immediate, real, positive change.
What is more, Santiago is endorsed by Broward businesses and has the experience to ensure that the current financial crises due to imposed regulations does not have a long term negative impact on the community’s diverse industries. He will implement policies to end school bullying at the same time as revolutionizing response training to ensure that tragedies such as the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas never again occur.
Our county deserves a Sheriff that will serve all the people of Broward, who will will repair our broken Emergency Management System, and who will repair the marred relationship between the public and the police through pervasive community oversight and the incorporation of mental health professionals at all levels of activity.
